whaaaat?

Working on a direction-following activity the other day with some SDC 2nd graders.

Direction from me: Give the 2nd animal in line blue shoes.

2nd grader: Whaaat? Blue shoes? You don't really mean that, do you?

For some reason, this statement made me laugh! :) (maybe you had to be there!)

oh, the possibilities

Few students come to school on the rainy mornings. On Wednesday, only 2 out of my 3 primary SDC kiddos were in group.

"We only have 5 kids in class today!" said Jose.

"Yeah, it's really weird," said the other boy. "I wonder where they are? Maybe they're sick?"

"Nah, maybe they're chopping for pants!" said Jose (in a most wonderful Hispanic dialect!) :)

Pajama Talk

Last Thursday, I was talking to one of my upper grade SDC groups. 3rd/4th graders. I was asking them who was planning on wearing their pajamas the following day for our school's "pajama day." All 5 of the kids said they were planning on wearing their jammies. Then, they asked if I was planning on wearing my pajamas.

"Yes, I will be wearing my pajamas," I said.

"But we won't see you tomorrow," said one 3rd grader.

"Well, you could always stop by my room tomorrow if you want to," I replied--my room is right across the pod from their classroom.

"But. . .but I don't know where you live," said the 3rd grader.

Shocked, I said, "you don't need to know where I live--I meant my classroom, not my room at home!"

"Oh," he says, "I thought maybe you meant we could have a pillow fight or something."

uhhh. wow.
